Print and packaging
The part of the brand people hold in their hands. It has to look right, print right and use less.
Ritual designs packaging, labels, stationery, signage and editorial print for businesses across the UK, from a studio in Nottingham. Every piece is drawn by a person and specified properly, with stock, finish, dielines and colour set for the printer, so it comes out exactly the way it looked on screen.
Packaging is usually part of a wider identity, so it is designed as an extension of the brand rather than a separate job. Where the identity does not exist yet, we start with brand identity.
We only use sustainable printers. Recycled and FSC certified stocks, fewer finishes, and print runs sized to what will actually get used. The studio is a member of 1% For The Planet and plants trees through the Woodland Trust as projects complete, so how something gets made matters here as much as how it looks.
Food, drink, retail and hospitality brands are where most of this work lands: deli labels, jars, bottles, bags, menus and the signage that ties a shop front to the brand.
What's included
Boxes, bags, jars, bottles and labels, with dielines and print specifications supplied.
Business cards, letterheads, compliment slips and the print pieces a brand needs on day one.
Shop fronts, wayfinding and interior signage designed to carry the identity into the building.
Brochures, menus, leaflets and books, laid out and typeset for print.
Tees, tote bags, water bottles and the things customers take home.
Stocks, finishes and print runs chosen to use less, through printers we trust.
How it works
We start with what the packaging has to do: sell on a shelf, survive a journey, sit in a fridge, be read in a hurry. Then the practical constraints, from stock and print process to budget and run length, so the design is right for the way it will be produced.
Designs are shared as sketches first and refined together. Artwork is proofed, specified and sent to the printer with everything they need, and we stay involved until the finished piece is in your hands.
